"For me, EXIT means being in the here and now." - Florian Reinhardt
20 years ago, the artist Florian Reinhardt began photographing iconic, man-made symbols, small, repetitive details in his environment on his travels. Nothing in the close-ups indicates place, time or situation; they are detached from a frame of reference and thus point to something universally valid. Now he is presenting his first series of works, "EXIT". EXIT signs are omnipresent and yet often overlooked; they are industrially manufactured and understandable regardless of country and culture. Conceptually in the tradition of Marcel Duchamp's ready-mades, Florian Reinhardt's endlessly repeating EXIT signs touch on human existence, which is always in progress. With the omnipresent EXIT sign, the artist tells of the human space of possibility: every individual has the opportunity every day to pause, change their perspective, make free decisions, and all of this in a serial process called life.
